In a Landslide Election, National Park Service Workers Vote to Unionize Across the West Coast

UnionizeNPS is proud to announce that NPS employees across the Pacific West Region have won their union election to be represented by NTEU. Workers won the union election by an extraordinary landslide, with 97% support and over 200 votes cast.

This represents the 11th successful union election across the National Park Service in just twelve months as part of a nationwide campaign to protect worker rights as we carry out the NPS mission to steward the parks and public lands that Americans cherish and to support local communities.

Park workers are custodians, maintenance workers, educators, biologists, archeologists, map makers, trail workers, law enforcement, engineers, firefighters, administrators, and—above all else—public servants.

We are unionizing for one purpose: to be able to continue to serve the American public. In order to do so, we need safe working conditions, fair treatment, decent living wages, livable housing, and to eliminate threats of illegal firing and retaliation.

Of approximately 2400 eligible employees in the Pacific West Region, only 11% were covered by an active union before 2025. After organizing union elections with NTEU, NFFE, LiUNA and AFGE, over 60% of eligible workers in the region are now protected by a union, marking a 440% increase this year alone. The newly formed NTEU Chapter 348 includes over 500 NPS employees who work in 14 NPS sites. These are:
